Bed Bug Treatment Preparation

  1. Wash and Dry Bedding:

    • Wash all bedding, sheets, pillowcases, and blankets in hot water.

    • Dry them on the highest heat setting.

  2. Clean Clothing and Linens:

    • Gather all clothing, linens, and soft items.

    • Remove all items from closets, dressers, night stands, chests, etc.

    • Wash and dry them on high heat or store them in sealed plastic bags if they can't be washed immediately.

    • None of these items should remain in the bedroom.

  3. Vacuum Thoroughly:

    • Vacuum the entire home, focusing on areas where bed bugs are likely to hide (mattresses, bed frames, furniture, baseboards, and carpets).

    • Dispose of the vacuum bag in a sealed plastic bag immediately.

  4. Declutter and Organize:

    • Remove clutter from the home to reduce hiding spots for bed bugs.

    • Place items in sealed plastic bags or containers.

    • All luggage that has been used recently during travel must remain empty so that it may be inspected and treated if necessary.

  5. Disassemble Beds:

    • Disassemble bed frames and remove mattress and box springs.

    • Stand them against a wall to allow easy access for treatment.

  6. Move Furniture and Organize Decor:

    • Move furniture away from walls to allow access to baseboards and cracks.

    • Remove all shelves, picture frames, artwork, wall clocks and decorative items from the walls and place on the floor in the same room as they were handing. These items must be inspected and treated if necessary.

  7. Inspect and Seal Cracks:

    • Inspect and seal any cracks or crevices in walls, floors, and furniture where bed bugs may hide.

  8. Cover and Protect Items:

    • Cover items that cannot be washed in plastic wrap or sealed plastic bags.

  9. Prepare for Chemical Treatment:

    • Remove pets and plants from the treatment area.

    • Cover aquariums and turn off air pumps.

  10. Arrange for Alternative Accommodations:

    • Arrange to stay out of the home during and after the treatment as recommended by the pest control service technician.

  11. Communicate with the Pest Control Service:

    • Follow any additional instructions provided by your pest control professional.

    • Inform them of any specific concerns or areas where you have noticed bed bug activity.

By following these steps, you'll ensure that your home is properly prepared for bed bug treatment and increase the likelihood of successful eradication. If you have any specific questions or need further guidance, feel free to ask!
